State Prision The fortified area, in it's high and isolated position, makes Mount Fumone a perfect look-out point, offering perfect visibility of the surrounding area. The buildings where erected around the Arx (the original nucleus) and the doors of the houses face inwards to make the fortifications even stronger. You can still appreciate today that the houses were originally fortifications and watch towers. | |||

castle is situated at the centre of the fortress enclosed by another
defence wall and was equipped with everything necessary for its own
defence including numerous look-out towers.
