Fumone is visible from almost anywhere in the “Ciociara” area and because of its strategic position it was once used as a  communication point   between the lega Ernic towns of Alatri, Veroli, Ferentino, Anagni and for a short period the ancient  Frusino (now Frosinone )  From Fumone smoke signals were sent and the allied towns  quickly got precious information about any kind of imminent danger. When the Ernic lega came under Rome’s influence it was then taken over by them for the same reasons
