LE ORIGINI A well known Roman family: it is thought that the Castle of Monte
Longo (near Anagni) was founded by this family. Their tie with the Castle
of Fumone goes back to the year 1210 when Pope Innocence III (1210) made
Gregorio Longhi Cardinal giving him the right to Feudalism in both castles.
The brothers Marco Tullio and Guglielmo Longhi were later summoned again
to Fumone, by Boniface VIII, to look after the body of Celestine V the
Pope that abdicated from the ‘Tiara’ who died there in 1296. The
Longhi’s were given the Roman Patriziato (Patrician) in 1586 and
the title of Marquis of Real Soglio of Poland by Giovani III in 1696. Two
years later Innocence XII handed over the right to Marquis Don Pietro
Longhi and his descendants in blood line , giving him the power to pass on
the title to female descendants when there were no males. In 1815 the
Longhi’s were registered as Patricians personally by the Marquis Don
Guglielmo who married Anna Sforzi Cesarini and they had Gaetano, the first
born of Carlo Albero King of Sardegna who married Donna Emilia Caetani
from the Dukes of Sermoneta. The castle has remained up to today in the
Longhi family by descendants.
